Interpreting getting stronger in Ontario
HIN joined the OCCI Healthcare Division!
In 2017, Healthcare Interpetation Network (HIN) and OCCI joined forces when HIN formally dissolved and joined the OCCI Healthcare Division.
Twelve years ago the Healthcare Interpretation Network was incorporated to advocate for equal access to healthcare services for linguistically diverse communities and raise the bar for interpreting services in Canada. Throughout the years, HIN played an integral role in the development of Canada’s National Standards (NSGCIS), the LITP curriculum as well as many other activities towards the professionalization of interpreting.
In October 2016, the Healthcare Interpretation Network (HIN) voted at their AGM to dissolve the Association. Far from being the end of HIN, they have signed at the end of December a MOU with the Ontario Council of Community Interpreters (OCCI). HIN will become part of OCCI’s Healthcare Division, carrying forward the original mandate and vision while revitalizing the strategies and making OCCI and the interpreting profession even stronger though unified efforts.
OCCI is working now on the logistics of welcoming HIN to its Healthcare Division and will be proud to host the body of knowledge created by HIN over the years.
